Bolingey v Camborne Veterans

Sunday 24th October 2021

After eighteen months of Covid enforced inactivity; the Barbarians were back at Perranporth playing rugby. What better opponents to start the home season fixtures than Camborne Veterans? This match did not disappoint, both sides having to make some late adjustments to their teams which did not detract from a very competitive match well refereed by Kevin Williams.

Camborne opened the scoring with a try, but the Barbarians soon replied with some fine open rugby and an equalising try. Camborne then turned on the pressure and gained two more tries before Bolingey scored their second. At the final whistle Camborne earned the honours with a deserving win. But as always, the true winner on the day was the rugby family.

The third half was played at the Barbarian’s spiritual home the Bolingey Inn. How great it was to be back there and welcomed by our hosts Carol and Mike. We all enjoyed a wonderful meal and some well-deserved liquid refreshment.

The Barbarian’s chairman Roger Mead thanked all for an entertaining match and the Bolingey Inn for their hospitality. Camborne’s Martin Symons responded and presented a £350 donation from the Camborne players to start the day rolling. This was followed by the raffle and auction. With total monies raised on the day of £1365.00. This money will go forward to help some of the less fortunate children in Cornwall.

Thank you to all that played and supported the Bolingey Barbarians.

We look forward to seeing you at our next match on Sunday 14th November when our guests will be a combination side from Bude, Launceston and Wadebridge. Kick off 1pm at Perranporth RFC.
