Bolingey Barbarians v Bude, Wadebridge and Launceston
Sunday 14th November 2021
The Bolingey Barbarians were pleased to see a well organised combination side from Bude, Launceston and Wadebridge arrive at Perranporth RFC. Intent on a good day of rugby and camaraderie.
The minibus ‘team talk’ must have been inspirational as the visitors showed no signs of travel fatigue and started brightly scoring twice without reply. After five minutes a solo line break caught the Bolingey defence napping. This lead was reinforced with a well worked catch and drive by the forwards.
The Barbarians scored their first after 25 minutes; Falmouth’s Peter Collett fielding a long range drop out and making a great solo run to touch down between the posts. The scores were tied after a good passage of play, a fine team try seeing the Barbarians over for their second.
BWL then enjoyed a fight back to have the final say of the half, scoring again just before referee James Milliner signalled the break.
The restart and remainder of the match held a certain symmetry for the visitors who were awarded another three tries in much the same time gaps. Bude’s Luke Dunkin rounding off the day with his try at the final whistle, making identical scores for each half.
Bolingey enjoyed a lot of possession which made the game a fine spectacle for their supporters, despite this good-hearted encouragement and creating several opportunities the Barbarians could not match their first half score and managed to breach the defensive line for a single try.
Players and supporters enjoyed the third half at the Bolingey Inn. After the great meal provided by hosts Carol and Mike there followed the usual raffle and auction involving some serious bidding; a jar of pickled onions £70! A youth Bolingey shirt £205 which certainly helped boost the total £1120.00 raised towards the charitable fund. Thanks to all for supporting the day with spirit and generosity most humbling.
We now look forward to seeing you all resplendent in your Christmas Jumpers when the Barbarians take on the combined side from Perranporth, St Agnes and Newquay on the 12th December KO 1.pm.
